Itinerary

We have carefully planned out each day of the 11-Day Morocco Coast, Sahara & Draa Valley Adventure from Marrakech to give you the best possible experience. From exploring historic landmarks to tasting delicious local cuisine, each day is packed with adventure and excitement. Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the most fascinating destinations in Morocco, from the Sahara Desert to the Atlantic coast.

DAY 1 - Marrakech (Arrival & Tour Start) – Essaouira (180 km)

Welcome at the airport and departure towards Essaouira. The vegetation transforms along the way: vineyards, olive groves, and finally, Argan trees. This plant is found only in Morocco, and its fruit yields an oil with numerous healing and cosmetic properties. After passing Chichaoua, a straight road, then a curve, another straight stretch, and suddenly the ocean. From the hills surrounding Essaouira, you can admire the bay where the city lies. Arrive at your hotel/riad, and in the afternoon, you can begin exploring the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, encircled by high walls worn by salt and wind. In the 16th century, the Portuguese fortified the city with a true fortress, featuring bastions embedded in rocks battered by ocean waves. The atmosphere is captivating. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 2 - Essaouira – Sidi Kaouki – Essaouira (50 km)

After breakfast, drive to Sidi Kaouki beach, where you can stroll along the long, semi-deserted stretch of sand, admiring the surfers. Return to Essaouira to delve into the alleys of the souks or, guided by the numerous seagulls, head to the port area. If you arrive when the fishermen return, you can witness the fish auction. At sunset, in the square between the port and the walls, you can observe the daily life of locals relaxing in the late afternoon air, in an atmosphere from another time. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 3 - Essaouira – Agadir (180 km)

After breakfast, depart for Agadir. The road winds along long stretches of sand and is surrounded by Argan trees. At times, soft sand dunes cascade into the ocean. You’ll arrive in Taghazout, a small fishing village now a popular surfing destination. Continue to the bay of Agadir. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 4 - Agadir – Souss-Massa – Tiznit – Legzira (170 km)

After breakfast, accompanied by a local guide, you’ll visit the Souss-Massa National Park. Continue south, heading inland to reach Tiznit, with its desert atmosphere cooled by the ocean breeze and its thick walls featuring 29 towers. The journey continues, nearing the sea and occasionally skirting long beaches, and after passing Mirleft, you’ll reach the unforgettable Legzira beach. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 5 - Legzira – Tata (320 km)

After breakfast, depart towards Sidi Ifni, a coastal town. After passing it, you’ll leave the coast and head east. Through rugged pre-desert landscapes suddenly softened by unexpected oases, you’ll reach the quiet town of Tata, located in the oasis of the same name, in an area that includes many ksars (fortified villages). Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 6 - Tata – Foum Zguid – Erg Chegaga (240 km road + track)

Breakfast and departure heading east. You’ll arrive at Foum Zguid, the last inhabited outpost before the Sahara. After a stop in this village, you’ll venture into the desert. You’ll cross the “Lake Iriki,” a desert plain that was a lake many years ago – a suggestive place where mirages accompany travelers until they reach the dunes. Entering among them, you’ll arrive at the tented camp located in Erg Chegaga. Free time to walk among the dunes and enjoy the silence and infinitude. After sunset, dinner will be served under the starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay in the tented camp.

DAY 7 - Erg Chegaga – M’Hamid – Tagounite (90km track)

Wake up in time to witness the spectacular sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, depart to complete the crossing of this part of the Sahara. Crossing various types of desert landscapes, from Erg (sand dunes) to Hamada (stony desert) to Reg (rocky desert), you’ll reach the sacred oasis and continue towards M’hamid, the first inhabited center after the desert. After a refreshing stop, you’ll proceed to the village of Oulad Driss, where you’ll visit the old part of the village and a small museum of traditional objects. Continue walking to the palmerie (palm grove). Back on the road, you’ll reach the Tagounite oasis. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 8 - Tagounite – Zagora – Agdz (180 km)

Breakfast and departure towards Zagora. You’ll reach the village of Tamegroute with its “underground” kasbah, the Koranic library, and the traditional pottery factory. Continue to Zagora, a town founded by the French in the 1920s to control the region. The journey continues, ascending the Draa Valley until you reach Agdz. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

DAY 9 - Agdz – Marrakech (270 km)

Breakfast and departure for Marrakech. After passing Ouarzazate, you’ll reach the Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a magnificent example of a fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After visiting the Ksar, you’ll venture into the Onila Valley. The spectacular landscapes with the incredible colors of the High Atlas will accompany you for the rest of the journey, crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260 mt) until you arrive in the Marrakech region. Arrive at your hotel/riad in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 10 - Marrakech (City Tour)

After breakfast, meet with your authorized guide to begin a half-day tour of the imperial city known as “Red Marrakech,” founded by the Almoravides at the end of the 11th century. You’ll discover historical palaces, gardens, and monuments, walking through streets and alleys and admiring the Koutoubia minaret. You’ll arrive at the famous Djemaa El Fna square, where, accompanied by music, dances, and performances, you’ll delve into the lively and colorful souks. After saying goodbye to your guide, the afternoon is free to continue exploring the Medina. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 11 - Marrakech (departure)

Breakfast and free time. Meet your driver for the transfer to Marrakech’s Rak Menara Airport. It’s necessary to arrive at least two hours before your flight’s departure time. Arrival at the airport and end of services.
