We have carefully planned out each day of the 11-Day Morocco Imperial Cities & Sahara Desert Tour to give you the best possible experience. From exploring historic landmarks to tasting delicious local cuisine, each day is packed with adventure and excitement. Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the most fascinating destinations in Morocco, from the Sahara Desert to the Atlantic coast.
DAY 1 - Marrakech – Arrival and City TourWelcome at the airport and transfer to your riad. You’ll have free time to relax or begin exploring the city. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 2 - Marrakech – Rabat – Meknes (450km via highway)After breakfast, depart for the capital city of Rabat. Upon arrival in this modern and well-kept city, you’ll visit its iconic sites: the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. In the Medina, you’ll reach the Kasbah of the Oudayas, known for its distinctive blue and white colors. Then, depart for Meknes, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 3 - Meknès – Volubilis – Fes (85 km)After breakfast, accompanied by a guide, you’ll spend the morning visiting Meknes. Highlights include the imposing Bab Mansour, one of Morocco’s most beautiful gates, the water basin of the ancient imperial city (a water reserve for the palace gardens), the series of arches of the stables, and the large granaries. You’ll then delve into the souks, where shops are still divided by their different artisanal activities. After leaving Meknes, you’ll visit the Roman site of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Depart for Fes, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 4 - Fes City TourAfter breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of the country’s largest medina. Passing through one of its many gates, you’ll embark on a journey back in time. The labyrinth of alleys features a succession of wonderful carved cedarwood canopies, doors, and string courses. You’ll visit the Madrasa (Koranic school) and admire the Neijarine Fountain. As you walk, you’ll pass by the El-Qaraouiyyin Mosque (accessible only to Muslims). After leaving your guide, you’ll have free time to continue exploring the city. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 5 - Fes – Merzouga (470 km)After breakfast, depart for Merzouga. Heading towards the Middle Atlas, you’ll pass through Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” due to its similar landscapes and pointed-roof chalets, and cross the vast cedar forest. After passing Errachidia and Erfoud, descending from the plateau to the valley, you’ll arrive at Rissani, from where you’ll reach Merzouga. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 6 - Merzouga (60 km)After breakfast, you’ll visit the surroundings of Merzouga, with stops at Kamlia village and Dayet Srji Lake. In the afternoon, return to the hotel to prepare for a camel trek (approximately 1.5 hours) into the desert dunes. Crossing the golden sand landscape at sunset, you’ll reach the tented camp located in Erg Chebbi. Dinner will be served here under the starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay in the tented camp.
DAY 7 - Merzouga – Tinghir (210 km)Wake up in time to witness the spectacular sunrise over the dunes. You’ll return to Merzouga by camel (approximately 1.5 hours) for a shower and breakfast, then depart for Tinghir. Stop near Erfoud to see the fossil mountain. Continue through the vast Tafilalet oasis, and arrive at the Todra Gorges: a large red rock fracture rising about 300m, dividing the High Atlas range from the Jebel Sarhro massif. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 8 - Tinghir – Skoura Oasis (180 km)Breakfast and departure for Skoura. You’ll travel through the majestic Dades Gorges before descending into its fertile valley, rich in palm groves and red earth kasbahs. Leaving the main road, the Boutaghrar track reveals lunar landscapes with different geological formations. Continue through the Valley of Roses and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs until you reach the Skoura oasis. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 9 - Skoura Oasis – Marrakech (240 km)Breakfast and departure for Marrakech. After passing Ouarzazate, you’ll reach the Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a magnificent example of a fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After visiting the Ksar, you’ll venture into the Onila Valley. The spectacular landscapes with the incredible colors of the High Atlas will accompany you for the rest of the journey, crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m) until you arrive in the Marrakech region. Arrive at your riad in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 10 - Marrakech – City TourAfter breakfast, meet with your authorized guide to begin a half-day tour of the imperial city known as “Red Marrakech,” founded by the Almoravides at the end of the 11th century. You’ll discover historical palaces, gardens, and monuments, walking through streets and alleys and admiring the Koutoubia minaret. You’ll arrive at the famous Djemaa el Fna square, where, accompanied by music, dances, and performances, you’ll delve into the lively and colorful souks. After saying goodbye to your guide, you can continue exploring the medina on your own. Overnight stay in a riad.
DAY 11 - Marrakech (departure)Breakfast and free time to continue visiting the city, shop, or relax before meeting your driver for the transfer to Marrakech’s Rak Menara Airport. You’ll need to arrive at least two hours before your flight’s departure time. Arrival at the airport and end of services.
